ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE

What exactly does it mean to be ‘eco-friendly’?IRA_logo_sm

Is it really better to use biodegradable material, or is reprocessed material sufficient and more cost realistic?

How does the desire for a lower carbon footprint apply to the display industry?

Mercury Plastics is committed to supporting our customers in their efforts to present environmentally responsible solutions to the market. This has become a very complex field, involving a variety of terms that are often used indiscriminately without regard to precise meaning or purpose, and a number of materials or additives with properties that may or may not have been properly certified. Mercury has assumed a leadership position and helps guide customers through this confusing yet high profile arena by providing:

  • A number of recycled, reprocessed or blended plastic materials for use as OEM parts or display components
  • Research into biodegradable materials currently available on the market, and an assessment of how appropriate their use would be for various specific applications
  • Research and development of Mercury proprietary materials produced through our highly advanced in-house extrusion process
  • Ongoing updates on activities and progress both in the plastics industry in general and within Mercury Plastics in specific as reported through our quarterly email publication, InForm (click on links for relevant articles)
  • A helpful guide through confusing “green” terminology consisting of a glossary of commonly used words and phrases and an explanatory narrative

Mercury sets a stellar example for an environmentally responsible firm by operating an ecologically sound production and warehousing facility. We employ a ‘5S’ lean manufacturing program, ascribe to countless significant energy saving features on our equipment, have controls and monitors on all our utilities (including air & water), and utilize MX4 software to trigger consistent and thorough maintenance on all the equipment throughout the Mercury plant. Moreover, we are diligent about sorting and recycling all scrap plastic, metal and corrugated materials. Mercury clearly walks the talk!
